Vive la France

It appears that I'm finally going to travel abroad!!! The planning has begun and I will leak to all of you the first destination of the ten day trip...three days spent in Paris, qui qui.
I've started my personal research. Travel agents and three couples that have never been there need some help planning this great vacation. We will be embarking on our journey in October 2010 for our husband's 30th birthday celebrations. I've never been to Paris, but for those of you that have been before please post some comments about things we should do, places we should stay, bistros we should eat at while we're there. I've gone to my trusted Tripadvisor.com and I am extremely excited about this first potential leg of the trip. Just the description is intoxicating: "Whether you're strolling along the Seine or soaking up city life from a sidewalk café, you'll see why Paris is synonymous with the word style. Of course, you can't miss the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Versailles and the Louvre. But be sure to spend a quiet moment in the Jardin de Tuileries and savor an éclair from a patisserie or a glass of Beaujolais in a romantic bistro. From culinary delights to cultural sights, haute couture to heady romance, Paris will tempt every one of your senses."
I plan to do all these activities and more and I plan to post the next legs of the trip, but first Vive la France, give me some travel tips for the City of Lights.

will you buy me some of those cheap prints you can get on the street for like 1 euro? pick out like 4 or 5 cute ones..... and avoid all restaurants by Notre Dame - i dont remember which restaurant it was, but regardless of what we ordered, both Kris and I got chicken (neither of us ordered chicken) and it was tarragon - YUCK! :)

i also suggest you see the Eiffel Tower in the morning AND evening when it's all lit up...... otherwise, i'm of no use - i was only there for 10 hours and it's all a blur. :)

Those prints are in the artist district that is at the top of some hill, I realize that is not super helpful but you should be able to find. I got some beautilful onese there a few years ago. Also, you MUST stop for a pannini on the street corner, there like hot dog vendors in NYC but the panninis are AMAZING tomato & mozzarella. Also dont forget to grab a crepe at some point, as they are also delicious. Not sure where your travels are going to take you but if you get th chance you should go to Nice, it was perfect!

I very much recommend spending an evening in Monmartre- Cafe Burq has the most amazing food. Make a reservation if you go. Then there are all sorts of fun little bars (up the hill and to right) in the neighborhood. Good for drinking wine and playing board games.

Also, you must spend a day/night in the Marais (the jewish quarter). Let me know if you need a restaurant recommendations for that hood.
